Little Free Library

Artist: BitSpace Chicago and young ArtWalk 2023 attendees

Location: Ravenswood Ave and Wilson Ave, NE corner

Materials: Wood

Install Date: May 6, 2024

Artist Statement

Each year at Ravenswood ArtWalk, kids who attend the festival get to participate in a hands-on building project. Under the guidance of instructors from BitSpace, these clever young makers work together using power tools to create and decorate an original play structure or, as we call it, an “Exquisite Fort”. In 2023, BitSpace also helped participants design and construct a brand new, community-crafted, Little Free Library for the Ravenswood community.

In 2024, members of the community took a survey to vote on a location for the LFL. The winner was our kids-focused “People Space” on Wilson at Ravenswood Ave! The installation of the LFL was celebrated with an Activation Ceremony on May 6, 2024, which included a ribbon cutting, a live performance of an original song by Mr. Nick Davio, and more. Special thanks is due to our Activation Day sponsors, Lycée Français de Chicago and Ravenswood Pediatrics!
