Mathias’ work is made from found object and materials that are incorporated into assemblage faces, figures, mandalas, and abstract constructions. His work is a compulsive effort to repurpose the functionality of found objects and materials to suit his life-long need to make stuff. He hopes to engage the viewer in a conceptual dialogue that changes their assumption about what the work appears to be and what it actually is.
Mathias’ work is created from found items like discarded household items, driftwood, branches, exotic bits of hardware, broken signs, and debris from cars. The materials are incorporated and repurposed into assemblages, shadowboxes, and fabric collages that re-imagine the visual conventions of established art forms through subversive imitation. His work will be on display and available for purchase.
