Laura Castanos

My work is primarily focused on abstracted local landscape scenes with a desire to evoke not only my own personal memory, but reflect back memories of comfort to the viewer. I am also currently expanding into figurative work for 2025, with the same focus on self reflection and searching for memory of place and time. For example, I am working on creating images based on gathering places in my mother’s childhood home, private alcoves in outdoor areas in my own town, looking out into the landscape, and exploring worlds within dappled patches of grass, small houses in the distance, and odd corners that capture my attention and focus. I have been told on multiple occasions that my pieces remind viewers of their home town, a place they visited and loved, or an obscure memory of a moment in time.
